Regla 12 · Faltas y conducta incorrecta (conducta violenta)
“Conducta violenta: emplear «fuerza excesiva o con brutalidad contra un adversario» «cuando no le está disputando el balón».”
IFAB Laws of the Game (extract)
Law 12 distinguishes between holding an opponent, punished with a direct free kick and, depending on the case, a yellow, and violent conduct, which is a straight red and requires excessive force or brutality against an opponent when not challenging for the ball. The question being voted on is whether a hair pull with no ball in dispute reaches that threshold.
Real Madrid were 1-0 up through a Yan Diomande goal (62'). They finished with ten men and won 1-0. According to COPE, Vinícius was banned for four matches: two for the incident and two for his protests afterwards.
