Tripping or attempting to trip is a Law 12 direct free-kick offence if done carelessly, recklessly or with excessive force. Inside the box it's a penalty. The referee judges whether the defender actually touches the attacker and whether that contact is enough to bring him down.
The score was 0-0. It came in the move straight after Oriol Rey's stamp on Villares. Deportivo scored in the 63rd minute and Levante equalised in the 82nd.
